About Maya Myozen Hill

I was born in the country side of Zurich in Switzerland into a loving, traditional family. I was free to roam the forests and play since preschool did not exist for us then. A deep trust in the basic goodness of life prevailed and carried me far into the world, and I believe is at the foundation of the many unconventional choices I made. My family was caring and strict, although not always where these virtues are most important. Nonetheless, I left home with huge gifts; a main one being the courage to follow my longing for clarity of Mind and Spirit.

In my Twenties I pursued a successful and wide reaching career as a fashion model. Being a fashion model opened countless doors to experience and work with the artistic demands and the creative genius in the world of fashion and embodied expression. Living and working in different countries and a variety of cultures taught me the skills to perceive, translate and express a wide range of ideas and demands. I developed strong boundaries, discipline and the capacity to stay in connection and focus in stressful situations.

As good instinct and my never-ending longing for beauty and connection matured, I came to America to live in northern California for further education in the healing arts. With a few of my favorite clothes of Jean Paul Gautier and a pile of philosophy books I immersed myself into the world of holistic healing. I found my first teacher Bruce Burger and his teachings of the Vedic approach to consciousness.

My son was born in 1993. I love being a mother.

I kept working in the healing arts, continued my the study with different modalities of emotional release work, embodiment practices and shadow work. I have been a Zen meditation practitioner for 30 years now. If the circumstances allow, I sculpt and carve in marble. I am the designer of the sculpture line “Forms Of The Feminine Spirit”

The Integral teachings and the writings of Ken Wilber have informed how I moved forward and what choices I made for many years. Participating in the courses and conferences of the Integral community, I also studied with Rob McNamara (The Elegant Self)

I studied and practiced Zen and Integral Life Practice with Diane Musho Hamilton Roshi for 10 years. In 2016 I was ordained as a Zen monk with Musho Roshi. Her masterful teachings and guidance have shaped and informed me deeply. (Everything is Workable, Compassionate Conversations)

Out of my experiences with cultural diversities, the healing arts and motherhood, the philosophy of the Integral map, adult development and most of all, my dedication and love for the Zen Buddhist path and meditation, I formulated this curriculum for The Middle Way Practice.
